Spotify je komercijalna usluga koja pruža streaming muzike i sadržaj (zaštićen DRM-om) izdavačkih kuća Sony, EMI, Warner Music Group i Universal.[2][3] Muzika se može pretraživati po izvođaču, albumu, žanru, spisku za reprodukciju ili po izdavačkoj kući. Pretplata, odnosno usluga "Premium", dozvoljava korisnicima uklanjanje reklama i preuzimanje muzike za slušanje kad su van mreže.[4]

Uslugu je pokrenula švedska kompanija Spotify AB u oktobru 2008. Dana 15. septembra 2010. usluga je imala otprilike 10 miliona korisnika,[5] uključujući 2,5 miliona korisnika koji su se pretplatili na uslugu.[6][7] Dostigla je 20 miliona korisnika od kojih je 5 miliona plaćalo za uslugu u decembru 2012.[8][9] i 60 miliona korisnika od kojih je 15 miliona plaćalo za uslugu u januaru 2015.[10]

Prema podacima iz januara 2015, Spotify je dostupan na sljedećim platformama: Android, BlackBerry, Boxee, iOS, MeeGo, Windows, Openpandora, macOS, Roku, S60 (Symbian), Samsung Smart TV, Squeezebox, Telia Digitalni TV, TiVo, WD TV, webOS, Windows Mobile i Windows Phone.[11][12][13][14][15] Usluga nema službenu aplikaciju za Windows 8, ali postoji klijent Spotlite kojeg su napravili nezavisni programeri i dostupan je u Windows prodavaonici.[16]

Dostupnost Spotifya u svijetu.

Spotify je dostupan u 92 zemlje.[17] U Estoniji, Grčkoj i Rumuniji, do jula 2009. jedino je bila dostupna "Premium" usluga bez mogućnosti besplatnog korištenja. Samo korisnici sa kreditnim karticama ili PayPal računima u ovim područjima mogu se pretplatiti na "Premium" uslugu.[18]
