Ljudski gen API5 kodira protein apoptozni inhibitor 5 .[ 5] [ 6]
Ovaj gen kodira inhibitorni protein apoptoze , čija ekspresija sprječava apoptozu nakon lišavanja faktora rasta . ovaj protein potiskuje apoptozu izazvanu transkripcijskim faktorom E2F1, a također stupa u interakciju i negativno regulira acinus, jedarni faktor koji je uključen u apopto fragmentacijutskku DNK . Njegovo iscrpljivanje pojačava citotoksično djelovanje hemoterapijskih lijekova. Kristalna struktura API5 pokazala je funkciju interakcije protein-protein .[ 7]
