Pictures from the Probert Encyclopedia[edit]

I assume that the Probert Encyclopedia does not own rights on any of the pictures they use. [1] states that "some pictures in The Probert Encyclopaedia have been obtained from the public domain in good faith". The pictures taken from the probert encyclopedia all claim to the PD merely because the probiert encyclopedia claims so. That's insufficient. The pictures must actually be PD, and I doubt that, because many are from the middle of the 20st century, others are in color. The copyright won't have expired yet in the general case. In any case, PD-because with disclaiming responsibility by referring to the probert encyclopedia is not the way to do it. --Rtc 13:27, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. The phrase "some pictures in The Probert Encyclopaedia have been obtained from the public domain in good faith" is a contradiction in terms; if the images had really been obtained from public domain sources, no good faith would be needed from Probert Encyclopedia. What that sentence probably means is:
  • pictures were obtained from sources usually (erroneously) considered "public domain" (like the Internet, or any publication which does not acknowledge image authors)
  • by so doing, Probert Encyclopedia meant no harm to anyone and is not looking forward to litigation. – Tintazul talk 18:26, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
