Occupy Wall Street

Occupy Wall Street (Okupiraj Wall Street ili Okupirajmo Wall Street) je naziv za kontinuiranu protestnu akciju koja se od 17. septembra 2011. odvijala na ulicama New Yorka, odnosno demonstracije protiv vodećih američkih banaka i multinacionalnih korporacija koje njihovi sudionici drže odgovornima za naglo osiromašenje svjetskog stanovništva i druge štetne efekte globalne finansijske krize. Akciju je 17. septembra započela kanadska antikonzumeristička organizacija Adbusters, a s vremenom joj se priključio niz drugih pojedinaca i organizacija, uglavnom pripadnika američke radikalne ljevice, a logističku podršku im je pružila i svjetska haktivistička organizacija Anonymous. Iako organizatori tvrde da će se demonstracije, u obliku "okupacije" javnih površina nastaviti dok "se ciljevi ne ostvare", ti ciljevi još uvijek, prema njihovim riječima "nisu formulirani"; neki od sudionika su, pak, naveli da se oni prvenstveno odnose na nastojanje da se ukloni štetni uticaj krupnog kapitala, oličenog u kompanijama na Wall Streetu, na američku politiku, odnosno da se najbogatijim pojedincima i kompanijama nametnu visoki porezi i tako prikupljenim sredstvima održe federalni socijalni programi i izbjegnu rezovi izazvani ekonomskom krizom i budžetskim deficitom.

Organizatori su naveli kako im je uzor za akciju Arapsko proljeće, odnosno da nastoje, koristeći iste metode, provesti revoluciju nalik na revoluciju u Egiptu početkom 2011. Van Jones, ljevičarski aktivist i bivši visoki funkcioner Obamine administracije, koji se priključio protestima, najavio je kako će se protesti pretvoriti u "Američku jesen". Na demonstracijama se okupljalo između nekoliko stotina do nekoliko hiljada ljudi i uglavnom nisu zabilježeni nikakvi ozbiljni incidenti. Izuzetak je predstavljalo policijsko bacanje paparnog spreja u lice tri demonstrantice 24. septembra (a što je demonstrantima donijelo brojne simpatije u međunarodnoj javnosti) te masovno hapšenje 700 demonstranata koji su 1. oktobra 2011. blokirali Bruklinski most.

Dio komentatora smatra kako je protestna akcija u New Yorku prvi ozbiljniji odgovor američke ljevice i demokrata na akcije desnih populista okupljenih u Pokret čajanke.
