Football League 1888/1889. je bila prva sezona Football League kao najviše lige u engleskom nogometu. Bila je to prva sezona nacionalnih liga u svijetu.

Football League je osnovalo 12 klubova Accrington, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley, Derby County, Everton, Notts County, Preston North End, Stoke, West Bromwich Albion i Wolverhampton koji su se dogovorili da igraju međusoobno po dvije utakmice, ukupno 22 kola. Za pobjedu su se dodjeljivala dva boda, dok je za neriješen rezultat dodijeljivan po jedan bod.
