Richard Phillips Feynman (New York, 11. maj 1918. - Los Angeles, 15. februar 1988. godine) je bio američki fizičar.

Jedan od najutjecajnih američkih fizičara 20. vijeka i jedan od 10 najvećih fizičara[1], koji je naročito radio na polju kvantne elektrodinamike. Uz to što je bio nadatnuti predavač i amaterski muzičar, učestvovao je u razvoju atomske bombe, a bio je kasnije i član odbora koji je istraživao nesreću Space Shuttlea Challenger. Za svoj rad na kvantnoj elektrodinamici, Feynman je dobio Nobelovu nagradu za fiziku 1965. godine, zajedno s Julianom Schwingerom and Shin-Ichirom Tomonagom.

Također je poznat po mnogim avanturama, opisanim u knjigama Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!, What Do You Care What Other People Think? i Tuva or Bust!. Richard Feynman je bio u mnogim stvarima ekscentrik i slobodni duh.


„There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom“ (Mnogo je prostora na dnu) je naslov njegovog predavanja na sastanku Američkog fizičkog društva na Caltechu, 29. decembra 1959. Feynman razmotra mogućnost neposredne manipulacije pojedinačnih atoma, kao mnogo snažnijeg oblika sintetičke hemije, nego one korištene do tada.


K. Eric Drexler kasnije uzima Feynmanov koncept milijarde malih fabrika, i dodaje ideju da one mogu kopirati same sebe, kontrolisane računarom, umjesto ljudske kontrole. Ovo je Drexler iznio u svojoj knjizi iz 1986.: Engines of Creation: The Coming Era of Nanotechnology.
