Pulitzerova nagrada za književno djelo

Pulitzerova nagrada za književno djelo jedna je od sedam američkih Pulitzerovih nagrada ustanovljenih 1917 i koja je prvi put dodijeljena 1918.[1] Nagrada se svake godine dodjeljuje za književnost, dramu i muziku američkog autora, po mogućnosti koja se bavi američkim životom, objavljenu tokom prethodne kalendarske godine. Ova nagrada zamijenila je Pulitzerovu nagradu za roman koja se dodjeljivala od 1918. do 1947. i jedna je od originalnih Pulitzerovih nagrada.
Naziv je promijenjen u Pulitzerovu nagradu za književno djelo 1948, a podobnost je proširena i na kratke priče, novele, poeziju, kao i romane. Finalisti se proglašavaju od 1980, obično ukupno tri.[1]
Književni žiri je jednoglasno dodijelio nagradu 1974. djelu Thomasa Pynchona "Gravity's Rainbow", ali je ostatak žirija uložio veto, tako da nagrada nije dodijeljena.
