Astrobiologija je nauka koja proučava nastanak i evoluciju bioloških sistema u svemiru.
Ciljevi[uredi]
Astrobiologija pokušava da objasni nastanak života i njen razvoj kroz:
- posmatranja nastanaka i razvoj života na Zemlji
- razvijanje opštih postulata o razvoju i organizaciji živih organizama
- posmatranje razvoja i evolucije života na nivou molekula, organizama i ekosistema
- pronalaženje granica za stvaranje i održavanje života - koji minimum je potreban da se život stvori i razvije
- pronalaženje načina za prepoznavanje znaka života na drugim svijetovima
- pronalaženje života na nebeskim tijelima sunčevog sistema
